Oahu

Well, Oahu is first of all, the birthplace of yours truly *s*. Oahu is also known as the Gathering Place. This island is also the Capital of the State of Hawaii. It is very commercialized and the economy is forever booming there. Oahu has a lot of scenic points that you can visit when you decide to come and visit. Some point of interest are:

Punchbowl Cemetary:

This place of rest is one of the main attractions, when visiting. This cemetary is the last resting home of many many soldiers that died during the war. Korean War, Vietnam, even the dreadful day that Pearl Harbor went under attack. It is such a peaceful place to visit and most beautiful. It lies within a volcano crater which is extinct *s*. Not dormant, but extinct is what I was told *s*. The view from the upper most part of the crater overlooks the whole city of Honolulu.

Diamond Head:

Well, I am pretty sure everyone has seen this most famous mountain. It was named Diamond Head or Leahi (In Hawaiian) because it used to glitter like diamonds. But, the glitter came from the volcanic ash and substances within the crater. Inside of the crater is a huge area used for the military storage area. They also had large sunshine festivals there. Don't know if they still do, because it was a long time since I went to one *s*. The music was just super. I guarantee it *s*. But, Diamond Head is our trademark of Oahu.

Waikiki:

Who doesn't know Waikiki. It's the most famous beach, here in the islands. When I was little, we would always go there to swim. It wasn't as populated at that time. But, with all the hotels and restaurants and stores there? Waikiki does seem to dim in the distance. There's also the Honolulu Zoo and Aquarium that you can visit there as well. Kapiolani Park holds the Waikiki Shell. This is like a big concert hall where the entertainers of Hawaii and other groups as well, entertain. So, get your mats and coolers ready. Make yourself comfortable on the green grass of the lawn.

Bishop Musuem & Planetarium:

This is a must see place. Bishop Museum holds alot of the old ancient relics that were found in and around not only in Oahu but all the other islands as well. It's very educational for your children and yourself as well. I always took our sons there. Show them part of their heritage *s*. You can also see the birds that we use to have. None exist anymore. These birds feathers were used for the royal capes that were made. They also have skeletons of huge whales and fish caught from the ocean. Costumes and precious items that our royalty and common people had and wore. So that's a place to check out. Don't forget the Planitarium. It is awesome. You feel like you are in space or are there already *s*. Our sons loved that. Looking up into the heavens and finding the constellations. A must see place as well.

Aloha Stadium is the place to be if you are looking for bargians. it's not used only for football or baseball. There's a hugh Flea market or Swapmeet that is just so interesting to go and see. You can bargain with just about anything that they are selling. I truly miss going there. I don't live on Oahu anymore. And that is one of the places I hit first when I do fly there.

Pearl Harbor is a good place to visit as well. Although, for me it is also a sad place to visit. I feel it in the air, in the water. so many men lost their lives down there in the ocean trapped in the Arizona. It is a beautiful monument that they constructed. But, it's very sad.. Sorry *s*, but that's how I feel. You can still go and see. Maybe you will feel it just as I do *s*.

Can't forget to visit the State Capitol. Pretty nice construction of the building. I remember going there during my school days and seeing how the senate house held their meetings and lectured us about things that I really didn't understand at that time. I really wasn't interested. Unless I was going to be in office one day. The interior is magnificent. All the wood in there is Koa. so, you can imagine how much that must have cost? But, I wouldn't advise anyone to go there at night *s*. Pretty spooky. Our famous Queen is said to haunt the State building. After all, she was born and raised right in that area *s*

Polynesian Culture Center, North Shore, Haunama Bay, are all tourist delights. Have to see *s*. the fishing is spectacular in Haunama Bay, although it is mainly for snorkling. North Shore is where the surfers head for when the surf is up *s*. Polynesian Culture Center has a hugh broadway type of show that you can attend. Island natives from as far as New Zealand, show their stuff there *s*.

Besides all the many beaches, reastaurants, stores and fast foods you can visit? Oahu is a very fast paced environment which I am pretty sure you won't get bored *s*. May get tired cuz there's so much to see. But, never bored.
